01Scope
This policy applies to the Daymelle mood journal iOS app and this support website. Daymelle is provided by an independent developer. The operator is the individual developer listed on the App Store product page (“we” in this policy). For privacy and support, email maxlike2082@gmail.com.
Daymelle stores your journal locally on your device by default, with no Daymelle account required. You can enable iCloud sync to sync personal content to the current Apple Account's private CloudKit database. This sync does not run when disabled. The developer has no server that receives journal content, does not sell journals, and does not use them for advertising, profiling, third-party AI analysis or model training.
02Data processed on your device
To provide the features you choose, the app saves the following in its private storage. Search, timeline display, revisits, and smart page selection and layout run on your device; they are not sent to us or third-party AI services. Smart pages use your existing entries and do not generate journal text for you.
- Feelings and entries
- Your selected feelings, dates and times, titles, text, photos, later addenda, topics, favorites and hidden status, used to save and display your entries.
- Drafts and reviews
- Unfinished drafts; page date ranges, selection order, styles and personal notes; reading progress; reflections; small experiments; feedback; insights; and revision history, used to continue editing and revisiting. Actual adjustments to smart pages are automatically kept as separate drafts; the work updates only after explicit saving. Opening a suggestion alone does not create a draft.
- Preferences and operating state
- Language, appearance, timeline browsing date and display mode, in-app reminder status, app lock preferences, photo storage optimization preferences, backup folder permission, backup times and error states, plus account binding identifiers, device sync identifiers, change queues and sync status when sync is enabled. These maintain the way you choose to use the app.
- Photos and exported files
- Selected photos are processed as described below and saved in the app's private directory. Identical saved content may share files. With photo storage optimization enabled, some full saved versions may remain only in your private iCloud, while previews and recently used copies stay locally. The app creates temporary files when generating images to share, creating backups or previewing backups for restoration. It attempts cleanup on normal completion or exit; files left after abnormal exits follow the relevant startup cleanup rules.
The app does not request location, contacts, microphone, camera, health data or advertising tracking permissions, and does not read your entire photo library. Current reminders appear only within the app. When iCloud sync is enabled, the app receives background sync signals through Apple's remote notification mechanism. These signals sync content; they are not marketing reminders. The developer does not receive push identifiers.
Photo processing and embedded information: Newly imported still photos are resized and re-encoded as needed. Transparent images retain transparency; multi-frame images and suitable small images may retain their original files. Existing photos are not automatically recompressed. Re-encoding does not copy the original capture metadata, but retained original files may still contain capture times, device information or location metadata. Do not assume sensitive information has been removed from every saved photo. The app does not use it to locate or track you. iCloud sync and complete backups include the versions actually saved by the app. Exported page PNGs are newly rendered and do not copy location metadata from the original photos. Still check images and text for private information before sharing.
03Permissions and device authentication
Selecting photos and saving images
Adding photos uses the iOS system photo picker; the app receives only photos you select. The app requests permission to add photos only when saving page images to Photos. Denying that permission prevents saving to Photos but does not affect text or mood entries. Manage these permissions in iOS Settings.
App lock
When App lock is enabled, Apple's system authentication framework performs verification using Face ID, Touch ID or the device passcode, as supported by the device. The app receives only the success or failure result. It does not read or save your facial data, fingerprint or device passcode. Lock preferences stay locally and are not included in journal file backups.
Folder access and local protection
Import, export and automatic backup use the system file selection interface. After you select an automatic backup folder, the app saves permission to access that folder for later backups. This permission does not move to another device with a journal backup.
Journals and imported photos are saved with iOS file protection. App lock can also restrict access and obscure the background preview. App lock is not a file-encryption feature that adds a separate password to journals or exported backups. Protect your device passcode and external backups as well.
04Sync, backups and sharing
Optional iCloud sync
When you enable You → iCloud sync, the app uses the same Apple Account's private CloudKit database to sync personal entries, photos, later addenda, topics, favorites, hidden status, drafts, pages, small experiments, insights, Recently Deleted and retained conflicting versions. This uses your iCloud storage, with Apple providing storage and transfer services. The developer cannot view your private database content in the developer console.
Offline changes remain local first; the app automatically attempts to sync when reconnected. To prevent an old device from bringing deleted content back, sync retains deletion markers without the original text. App lock, language, appearance, folder permissions, reminders and review progress remain separate on each device and do not migrate through sync. Switching Apple Accounts pauses sync; journals from the old account are not automatically uploaded to the new one.
Before disabling sync, the app retrieves full saved photo versions stored only in iCloud and turns off photo storage optimization. If a download fails, it reports the issue and leaves sync enabled. After a successful disable, the local journal and existing iCloud copies remain; enabling sync again merges cloud content. Sync is not an independent historical backup. Normal deletions also sync to other devices, so keep a separate file backup. Apple services are subject to your system settings and Apple's privacy policy.
Optional photo storage optimization
When you enable “Optimize photo storage” in “You → Photo storage”, the app may remove local full versions of photos confirmed as uploaded to the current private iCloud account, provided they have no changes waiting to sync. Smaller offline previews are kept. Photos used by drafts and photos not yet synced stay locally. This option is off by default. Its preference stays on this device and does not migrate through journal sync or file backups.
When viewing, cropping, exporting or backing up requires a full saved version, the app downloads it from Apple on demand and verifies it. Failures are reported; backups and exports do not substitute previews for complete photos. Full saved versions are retrieved before optimization is disabled, which may require network access and free storage.
Complete file backups
You can export a complete .daymelle backup containing your journal, photos, drafts, pages, reviews and related state, along with items not yet cleared from Recently Deleted and retained conflicting versions. It includes the photo versions actually saved by the app, which are not guaranteed to be identical to the original files before import. The new archive reads and writes in chunks and verifies files, without the old JSON format's 150 MiB whole-journal limit. Older JSON / V13 files can still be restored. Backups exclude device sync account bindings, sync tokens and pending outgoing state. Backup files have no additional encryption or password. Anyone who obtains a file may be able to read its text and images. Save it in a trusted place; do not publish or casually send complete backups.
Turn off sync before restoring a file. The app shows a preview and replaces the current journal only after confirmation; file restoration itself does not merge content from different devices. Restoration does not import another device's app lock settings. Automatic backup, sync and photo storage optimization remain off and require confirmation on this device. Enabling sync afterwards merges existing iCloud content.
Automatic file backups
Choosing a backup folder enables automatic backup and attempts an immediate backup. Afterwards, the app checks for content changes when foregrounded and unlocked. Automatic checks trigger backups at most once every 24 hours; you can also back up manually. The app attempts to keep only its latest 7 automatic backups in the selected folder, counting new .daymelle and old JSON formats together. Manual backups are not included in this cleanup rule.
If you choose iCloud Drive or another cloud folder, Apple or the relevant file service handles uploads, storage and downloads, under its terms and privacy policy. We do not receive server copies of these files or your cloud account. Automatic file backup is not real-time cross-device sync, and the app cannot guarantee that a cloud upload has finished when a file has been written.
iOS system backups and intentional sharing
Depending on your system settings, iCloud device backups or computer backups may include Daymelle app data. This is separate from the app's file backup feature. Manage it in Apple's device backup settings. For iCloud device backups, see Apple's backup guide.
When you save images to Photos or send them through the system share sheet, the selected content is passed to your chosen photo library, app, service or recipient. Photos may sync to iCloud Photos according to your settings. Review exported content before sharing; its subsequent use and storage are controlled by the services and recipients you choose.
05Retention and deletion
Journal content remains on your device by default until you edit, delete or clear it. If you enable photo storage optimization, some full saved photo versions may remain only in your private iCloud, with previews stored locally. To reduce loss from interrupted writes, normal editing and restoration keep one generation of a local recovery snapshot and may retain photo files needed for recovery. These are not uploaded to us. Freeing space in Photo storage checks whether photos are still used by entries, drafts, Recently Deleted, recovery copies and related content. Files still in use are kept.
Recently Deleted
Entries, pages and photos removed from existing entries when edits are saved enter Recently Deleted for 30 days. You can restore them before expiry or permanently delete them earlier. When sync is enabled, these deletion and restoration states sync. Expired content is cleaned up the next time the app is foregrounded and unlocked; cleanup at the exact expiry time while the app is closed is not promised.
Permanent deletion removes the relevant content and updates the local recovery snapshot. Photos still referenced by other entries, addenda, drafts or Recently Deleted items are kept. Deleting an individual later addendum removes its text and editing draft without going through Recently Deleted; the original entry remains. Photos removed from addenda still follow the 30-day Recently Deleted rule. If the original addendum has been deleted, its photos can be saved separately but cannot be restored to that addendum. Separately saved small experiments, insights and other copies may remain and require individual deletion. Not all content passes through Recently Deleted.
Clearing the journal
Go to You → Privacy & data → Clear all journal data, turn off sync first, then confirm clearing the journal, drafts, photos, pages, review state, Recently Deleted and related content on this iPhone. Local journal recovery files are also removed. Existing iCloud copies are preserved; enabling sync again merges cloud content. The app reports file cleanup failures. Device settings such as App lock and backup folder permission are stored independently. To stop automatic backups, disable them separately.
Hiding an entry only changes where it appears in the app. It is not deletion and does not exclude it from complete backups. The developer has no copy of your local journal and cannot read, delete or restore it remotely on your behalf.
06Third-party services and contact
Third-party services in the app
The current version has no third-party advertising, analytics, behavioral tracking or crash reporting SDKs, and no Daymelle account login, in-app purchase or subscription modules. It uses Apple's system frameworks for photo selection, file access, authentication, sharing and optional iCloud sync. Apple's own diagnostics, store and backup services are subject to your system settings and Apple's privacy policy.
Contacting the developer by email
When you send a support or privacy email, we receive your email address, message and any materials you choose to attach, to reply, investigate problems and handle privacy requests. Gmail provides this mailbox. Email transfer and storage are also subject to Google's privacy policy.
Prefer sending the steps to reproduce an issue and your app and iOS versions. Avoid unnecessary journals, photos or complete backups. Support emails are retained only as needed to handle requests, necessary follow-up and applicable legal requirements; they are not used for advertising or sold. You can use the same email address to request deletion of support materials you previously sent. We will explain if any parts must be retained by law.
Visiting this support website
This website does not require you to submit journal content. Its pages contain no ads, custom analytics scripts or forms for collecting journals. Hosting and network services receive request information needed to serve pages, such as IP addresses, browser information and request times. Their handling is governed by the provider's privacy policy. Visiting the website does not give the hosting service access to journals in the app's private storage.
The website saves your manually selected language in your browser only to remember your display preference. Choosing “Follow system” clears that selection and uses the language preferences provided by your browser instead. This setting does not read any journal content in the app.
07Your choices
- View and edit: View and edit your entries and other content in the app.
- Export and move devices: Use Backup & recovery to export a complete backup, or export images of selected pages.
- Sync: Turn sync on or off in “You → iCloud sync”, and view the last successful time and retained conflicting versions. Turning it off does not delete existing cloud copies.
- Delete: With sync enabled, deleting individual items and clearing Recently Deleted can sync removal of the corresponding content. Clearing local data does not clear iCloud. Manage external files, Photos and system backups in their respective services.
- Permissions and storage: Manage photo, Face ID and other permissions in iOS Settings. Manage App lock, sync, photo storage optimization and automatic backups in the app.
- Contact and requests: For questions about support emails or privacy handling, use the address below. There is no Daymelle account to close. Apple manages Apple Accounts.
We do not actively ask for age or children's identity information through the app. If minors use it, we recommend that guardians guide device, backup and sharing choices to avoid sending private entries to others. Contact the developer if you believe a support email contains information about a minor that should not have been provided.
08Updates and contact details
When features or data handling change, we will update this policy and the date at the top. We will explain new data processing or permissions and obtain consent where needed. Planned future features are not treated as features already present in the current version.
